No added sulfites for U.S. Organic wine
The NOSB (National Organic Standard Board) has voted down a petition to allow added sulfites in organic wine. By a 9-5 vote the current standards will remain in place, and U.S. organic wine will continue to have two categories: Organic and Made With Organic Grapes.
We have friends on both sides of this issue. Paul Dolan, Paul Chartrand and Paolo Bonetti spoke in favor of the petition. Phil LaRocca, Paul Frey, and Steve Frenkel of Organic Vintages spoke against. For one opinion saddened by this decision check out The Gray Report.
